General Studies Specialization: Professional Communication, Associate of Science

The Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in General Studies with a Specialization in Professional Communication is designed for students who plan to transfer to four-year colleges or universities and seek a baccalaureate degree in Communication Studies or a related area. This program is intended to provide students with a general course of study that parallels the freshman and sophomore years at many colleges and universities. Students should consult with an advisor or counselor to select general electives to ensure they will be accepted for the preferred program at the four-year institution they plan to attend.

Courses required for the A.S. degree are available on all four campuses.

5Students may select any DIT, HLT or PED (activity) course to satisfy this requirement.

6The official course outline will reflect the internship learning outcomes for this specialization. Students with Navy Ombudsmen experience will prepare a portfolio to submit to the program head for evaluation.

7Eligible courses are listed under Approved Electives for Transfer  . Students should consult with an academic advisor or counselor to choose the appropriate course(s).Recommended courses for Semester 3 include: SOC 268  , HIS 122   , HIS 112  , PLS 211, and PSY 215  .

8Students may select from eligible Humanities courses identified as Literature and Creative Writing or Human Culture under General Education Core Requirements . Students should consult with an academic advisor or counselor to choose the appropriate course(s).

9Students may select any Social Science elective under General Education Core Requirements , except for a History Course. Eligible courses are listed under General Education Core Requirements. Students should consult with an academic advisor or counselor to choose the appropriate course(s).
