Technical Studies Specialization: Technical Supervision, Associate of Applied Science

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Technical Studies: Technical Supervision is designed for students with training and work experience in a technical trade who wish to earn an applied degree for career advancement. Students complete general education requirements and technical foundation coursework in areas such as quality control, working in teams, LEAN principles, and scheduling, to prepare for management and/or supervisory positions in business or industry.

1Eligible courses are listed under General Education Core Requirements  . Students should consult with an academic advisor or counselor to choose the appropriate course(s).

2Students planning to transfer into ODU’s B.S. degree in Occupational and Technical Studies (Industrial Technology emphasis) should take the following: Humanities Elective (PHI 220  or PHI 226); Mathematics or Science with Lab Elective (MTH 154  , MTH 161  , or MTH 245  ); Social Science Electives (PSY 200  or 201 AND HIS 101  ,  HIS 102  , HIS 111  , HIS 112  , HIS 121  , or HIS 122  ).

3Students should meet with their faculty advisor or academic dean to determine prior academic certificates that may apply towards this requirement, and to select appropriate courses to fulfill the remainder of the requirement. A combined 40-41 credits will be awarded for the Approved Technical Electives. Students must have a minimum of 60 credit hours applicable to the degree to meet graduation requirements.

4Credit towards the Approved Technical Electives reflected in semesters 2 through 4 may be awarded to students with relevant work experience and/or earned certifications or licenses, as documented through completion of this course. Students without relevant and significant learning experiences may be advised by the academic dean to complete an alternate course. Additionally, students planning to transfer into ODU’s B.S. degree in Occupational and Technical Studies (Industrial Technology emphasis) should consider the following courses, as appropriate: ENG 115  or ENG 131  ; ACC 211  ; and ITE 119 .
