Technical Studies, Associate of Applied Science

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Technical Studies is designed for students with training, work experience, and collegiate coursework in a technical trade who wish to earn an applied degree, typically for career advancement. Students who have completed an eligible academic certificate(s) and the specified general education requirements select additional coursework to create a coherent program of study approved by the academic dean. Credit towards the additional and required coursework may be awarded to students who have significant and documented learning resulting from relevant work experience, earned certifications or licenses, internship credit, independent study, and/or apprenticeship credit.

 

Students must seek advising by the academic dean and approval of the student’s curriculum by the college is required before enrolling in classes. Students should contact the division office by email at EMSTDean@tcc.edu or by telephone at (757) 822-7197 for more information.

1Eligible courses are listed under General Education Core Requirements . Students should consult with an academic advisor or counselor to choose the appropriate course(s).

2Students should select the most appropriate College Success Skills (SDV 100) or Orientation to Careers (SDV 101) course. Students should consult with the academic dean of Technical Studies.

3Students should select one of either (1) Communication, (2) Mathematics, (3) Science with Lab, (4) Humanities, or (5) Social Science General Education Elective.

4One (1) or (2) existing certifications/career studies certificates with additional courses to create a coherent plan of study. May include experiential credit, such as credit for prior learning, internship credit, independent study, and/or apprenticeship credit. Students shall get their plan approved by the academic dean of Technical Studies.
